We're excited to announce a fantastic opportunity as part of our London Luton Airport Apprenticeship Programme! About the apprenticeship

The Apprentice Engineer will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to develop the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to become a qualified Building Services Engineer. The role combines workplace training with academic study, providing hands‑on experience in mechanical systems, maintenance, installation, design, and continuous improvement activities.

The apprentice will support engineering projects, equipment maintenance, fault finding, and the implementation of engineering best practices while working towards a recognised engineering qualification. In addition to this, the apprentice will work with other trades and support the Mechanical Senior Engineer with various office‑based tasks.

Your role at London Luton Airport will include:
  • Assist with the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Support engineers in diagnosing mechanical faults and identifying effective solutions.
  • Participate in planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.

  • Support engineering improvement projects aimed at enhancing reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Record maintenance activities accurately using company systems and documentation.
  • Assist with root cause investigations following equipment failures.
  • Develop knowledge of manufacturing processes, mechanical principles, and engineering standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
  • Comply with all company health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Attend college, training courses, and development programmes as required by the apprenticeship framework. Work closely with colleagues across engineering, production, and operations teams.

You will be enrolled in the mechatronics maintenance technician level 3 qualification, where you will gain the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to install, test, fault‑find, rectify, modify and carry out planned maintenance on complex automated equipment.

Throughout the programme, you will develop expertise across a range of engineering disciplines, including electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power and control systems.

You will also learn how to prepare for maintenance activities, communicate effectively with stakeholders, complete technical documentation, hand over work safely and efficiently, and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and those around you, all while developing the professional behaviours expected of a skilled engineering technician.
