Job summary

Edwards Vacuum is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to deliver best-practice mechanical engineering for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will report to an Associate Principal Engineer and contribute to subsystems, governance, and cost-effective delivery.

Qualifications

• Engineering Degree (minimum, essential).
• Master's degree or demonstrable equivalent is desirable.
• Experience in design for manufacturing, cost, assembly, maintainability (Essential).
• Willingness to undertake professional development to enhance capabilities (essential).
• Experience in regulated industry such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment (desirable).
• Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD (Essential).
• Ability to meet project milestones and interpret requirements into robust design solutions (Essential).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design best practices (Essential).

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering expertise to projects, including subsystems and technology developments.
• Support mechanical engineering activities across applicable projects.
• Advocate best practice to improve time, cost, quality, and safety governance.
• Create and manage work packages across cross-functional teams toward milestones and volume production.
• Ensure designs meet stakeholder requirements and compliance with standards such as EN 61511 and SEMI S2.
• Mentor graduates and apprentices, providing training for consistency and quality.

Your role

As a Mechanical Engineer, your mission is to deliver best practice mechanical engineering of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will report to a Associate Principal Engineer.

You will

• Responsibility for the technical delivery of mechanical engineering expertise to a project, incl. subsystems, and or technology developments.
• Support 'Mechanical Engineering' activities across applicable projects
• Advocate and support the adoption of best practice mechanical engineering to improve the delivery of the engineering function to time, cost, quality and specification, whilst ensuring the appropriate level of effective technical governance is in place for safety, compliance, quality and reliability.
• Support the creation and distribution of work packages, often across multiple cross functional teams, guiding the project toward a successful passage through project milestones through to completion and volume production.
• Ensure mechanical engineering of product development meets stakeholder and product requirements, and is compliant with relevant regulations, directives and standards, by design
• Act as a role model for graduate and apprentice members of staff, helping in providing relevant training and ensure consistency and quality.

• Engineering Degree Bachelors (minimum, essential), Masters (desirable), or demonstrable equivalent.
• Working towards and committed to achieving registration with a recognised engineering institution (desirable)
• Experience of design for x principles (x being manufacture, cost, assembly, maintainability etc) (Essential)
• Preparedness to undertake further professional development incl. through training courses and the like, to increase your knowledge and enhance your capabilities (essential).
• Experience of mechanical engineering and design in a relatable engineering industry (desirable)
• Experience and understanding of working in a regulated, compliance-driven industry (desirable) such as the semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry (desirable) incl. strong understanding of product safety and compliance to applicable standards (desirable). i.e. EN 61511; Safety and design review methods, e.g., PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA; Semiconductor industry standards – SEMI S2; Risk assessment – Semi S10.
• 3D and 2D CAD skills (Essential)
• Ability to focus on delivering to project milestones and timescales (Essential)
• Ability to interpret requirements and technical deliverables and translate this into robust design solutions (Essential)
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanical design engineering best practice (Essential)
• A willing, helpful attitude, a calm professional manner, and the ability to assess and set priorities with the support of their direct line manager (Essential)
