Job summary

Equans Group in the West Midlands is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team on a contract with Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals. This full‑time role (40 hours per week) involves hands‑on maintenance of ventilation, pumps, boilers, medical gases, heating and hot/cold water systems across the site.

You will respond to reactive breakdowns, carry out planned preventive maintenance, liaise with wards to minimise disruption, and progress with Competent Person status for specialised

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline to City & Guilds level.
• Experience in a maintenance environment.
• Knowledge of ventilation, pumps, boilers, medical gases, heating and domestic hot & cold-water systems.
• Valid driving licence.
• DBS check clearance required.

Job Overview

Responsibilities

• Work on ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold‑water systems.
• Undertake a proactive role in responding to reactive jobs to complete diagnostic, fault finding and repair to complex mechanical systems in accordance with relevant standards and operational procedures and in compliance with legislation and guidance.
• Ensure liaison with Wards and Departments as required, ensuring there is minimum disruption whilst carrying out work.
• Obtain Competent Person status following training and instruction for systems such as specialist ventilation system, complex water systems and medical gas installations.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to services across site on various aspects of the building services in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training.
• Take part in on call rota.

Qualifications

• City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline to City & Guilds level
• Previously worked within a maintenance environment
• Good knowledge and understand of a range of complex mechanical systems including but not limited to ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold‑water systems
• Possess a current valid driving licence
• This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
