Job summary

Equans is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to maintain equipment across Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital in the West Midlands. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, with responsibilities spanning ventilation systems, pumps, boilers and medical gas installations.

Candidates should have City & Guilds levels 2 and 3 or equivalent apprenticeship, maintenance experience, and a DBS clearance.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 are required.
• Recognised apprenticeship to City & Guilds level.
• Experience in a maintenance environment is essential.
• Competent Person/Authorised Person experience including ventilation and/or pressure systems.
• Healthcare maintenance experience is desirable.
• DBS Standard check is required.

Responsibilities

• Work on ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems.
• Respond to reactive jobs with diagnostic, fault finding and repair to complex mechanical systems per standards and procedures.
• Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during nightshift as first point of contact.
• Assess issues, allocate tasks to appropriate team member, complete documentation.
• Ensure records handed to Helpdesk at shift start for continuity.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance across site per programme and training.

Equans is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick and Sandwell General Hospital in West Bromwich. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week.

What will you deliver?

• Work on the following but not limited to: ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold-water systems
• Undertake a proactive role in responding to reactive jobs to complete diagnostic, fault finding and repair to complex mechanical systems in accordance with relevant standards and operational procedures and in compliance with legislation and guidance
• Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during nightshift, acting as the initial point of contact.
• Assess the nature of the issue, allocate the task to the appropriate team member, and complete the necessary documentation.
• Ensure all records are handed over to the Helpdesk team at the start of their shift to support effective service continuity
• Obtain Competent Person status following training and instruction for systems such as specialist ventilation system, complex water systems and medical gas installations
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to services across site on various aspects of the building services in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training

Who are you?

• City and Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3
• Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline to City & Guilds level
• Previously worked within a maintenance environment
• Previous Competent Person/Authorised Person experience including ventilation and/or pressure systems.
• (Desirable) Previously worked within a healthcare maintenance environment
• This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
