Job summary

Assystem UK Ltd in Sunderland invites a Mechanical Engineer to join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You will lead work packages for nuclear, marine, and O&G clients, delivering solutions across the project lifecycle with hybrid working.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with project management, and ensure timely delivery, quality, and cost targets while developing your expertise in Eurocode 3 and DNV standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Senior engineering experience in offshore, renewables, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Solid background in mechanical and structural engineering.
  • Proficient with CAD software: Inventor, AutoCAD, and Catia.
  • Strong mathematics and reporting skills with engineering documentation experience.
  • Familiar with Eurocode 3 and DNV standards; Master’s degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project tasks: plan and manage projects for a team of engineers.
  • Produce high-quality engineering solutions and report progress to Lead Engineer.
  • Mentor junior or graduate engineers and share technical guidance.
  • Manage time to meet deadlines, target costs, and quality standards with limited supervision.

Job Description

Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! You will join an expanding team to support the development and delivery of work packages for our nuclear, marine, and O&G clients based around our Sunderland office. The role supports Hybrid working. As a Mechanical Engineer your role will include:

  • Leading project tasks: Manage and plan projects for a team of engineers while coordinating with project management facilities.
  • Producing engineering solutions: Deliver high-quality engineering solutions across a wide range of topics and communicating progress: Provide feedback on technical development and project delivery to the Lead Engineer and Project Manager.
  • Mentoring: Offer technical guidance and support to team members, especially junior or graduate engineers.
  • Managing time: Efficiently manage your time to meet agreed deadlines, target costs, and quality standards with minimal supervision.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Relevant senior engineering experience in sectors like offshore, renewables, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Solid background in mechanical and structural engineering.
  • Proficient with CAD software: Skilled in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and/or Catia.
  • Strong mathematical skills: Experienced with MathCAD software.
  • Skilled in producing technical reports: Expertise in creating design and substantiation reports, assembly procedures, etc.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: Understanding of welding, machining, etc.
  • Experienced with the engineering design cycle from Concept to Manufacture.
  • Additional Information: Familiar with European and Offshore standards: Experience with Eurocode 3 and DNV.
  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • Skilled in checking and approving engineering CAD assemblies and drawings.
  • Proficient in verifying engineering documentation: Manual calculations, reports, etc.
  • Excellent Finite Element Analysis skills: In-depth knowledge of ANSYS Workbench is desirable.
  • Experienced in non-linear and fatigue FEA: Familiar with DNV and Eurocodes.
  • Due to the nature of the work, applicants must meet UK security clearance criteria.
