They have just completed preclinical trials and have first-in-human studies and commercialization ahead, now is the perfect time to join a high-impact, venture-backed team at a pivotal moment.

The Role

As Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be the mechanical design lead responsible for transitioning a high-functioning prototype into a commercially scalable medical device. You’ll be joining a compact, high-calibre engineering team with the opportunity to shape the product and your own growth trajectory.

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical design of the commercial surgical system
  • Act as the main point of contact with contract manufacturers and suppliers
  • Contribute to manufacturing and assembly process development
  • Support verification testing and inspection activities
  • Participate in quality control, documentation, and design reviews
  • 3–6 years mechanical engineering experience (preferably in highly regulated sectors)
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred, but not essential)
  • Strong grasp of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly
  • Familiarity with: Injection moulding, CNC milling & turning and Assembly processes
  • Familiarity with: Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
  • Exposure to ISO 13485 or other Quality Management System standards
  • Experience in robotics or mechatronics
  • Exposure to medical device development or other highly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with standards: ISO 14971 or ISO 62366
  • Experience with inspection and verification testing

Culture & Personality

The team thrives on collaboration, trust, and curiosity. They’re looking for someone who is:

  • Eager to learn and take initiative
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Open to feedback and highly collaborative
  • Hands-on and pragmatic with strong ownership over their work

You’ll work closely with electrical, software, and quality engineers, and be supported by a strong external network of suppliers, consultants, and advisors.

This is a lab-based role located in London (UCL Here East Campus) and candidates must be comfortable with frequent in-person collaboration.

Why Join Now?

This is the turning point: from lab success to commercial translation. You’ll be instrumental in taking a novel, life-saving technology into use and global commercialization. The impact of your work will be seen not just in labs, but in operating rooms and in lives saved.
