NES Fircroft in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of major water and wastewater treatment projects across the UK. The role covers design, procurement, construction and commissioning of mechanical systems for critical water infrastructure.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to design, specify and procure equipment, review P&IDs and technical documents, and provide construction and commissioning support throughout the project

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the water or wastewater treatment sector.
  • Experience producing engineering documentation, equipment specifications and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment procurement and supplier engagement.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation (desirable).

  • Support process and hydraulic design activities.

Our client, a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of major water and wastewater treatment projects across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing project team delivering complex Design & Build schemes from concept through to construction and commissioning. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, specification, procurement and delivery of mechanical systems for critical water infrastructure projects.

The Role Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for the technical delivery of mechanical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle. You will contribute to the design and specification of treatment plant equipment, support procurement activities, provide construction support and assist during commissioning and handover phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mechanical Design & Engineering
    • Develop and review mechanical engineering designs and technical documentation.
    • Produce and review P&IDs, equipment datasheets and technical specifications.
    • Support process and hydraulic design activities.
    • Ensure engineering solutions comply with project requirements, industry standards and client specifications.
  • Equipment Specification & Selection
    • Size, specify and select mechanical process equipment.
    • Support the technical definition and procurement of equipment including:
      • Pumps
      • Blowers
      • Mixers
      • Sludge thickening and dewatering systems
      • Chemical dosing systems
      • Valves and associated equipment
      • Tertiary treatment systems
  • Project & Design Coordination
    • Coordinate with Process, Civil and EICA engineering teams.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and technical workshops.
    • Ensure mechanical requirements are incorporated into project models, drawings and documentation.
  • Procurement & Supplier Management
    • Prepare technical enquiry documentation and equipment specifications.
    • Evaluate supplier quotations and technical submissions.
    • Support equipment package development and procurement activities.
    • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors throughout project delivery.
  • Construction & Commissioning Support
    • Provide technical support during installation and construction phases.
    • Assist with inspections, testing and commissioning activities.
    • Resolve engineering issues arising during project execution.
    • Support handover and operational readiness activities.
  • Risk & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify engineering risks and opportunities for optimisation.
    • Contribute to quality, cost and programme objectives.
    • Support the implementation of efficient and innovative engineering solutions.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within the water or wastewater treatment sector.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment used within treatment facilities.
  • Experience producing engineering documentation, equipment specifications and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment procurement and supplier engagement.
  • Experience supporting construction, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
  • Experience delivering projects under Design & Build or NEC contract environments.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Previous experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Understanding of target-cost project delivery models.
