Job summary

QinetiQ in Shoeburyness is seeking a Mechanical and Electrical Technician to maintain the Environmental Test Centre facilities, fix diverse equipment, and keep testing activities running safely and efficiently.

You’ll diagnose faults, support calibrations, manage contractor work, and contribute to uptime and asset lifecycle through upgrades and compliance. This full-time, on-site role requires a practical, team-focused approach and a UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Experience of engineering and electrical fault fixing.
• Qualified to carry out high voltage equipment testing (10KV).
• Previous experience working in Mechanical Engineering.
• The ability to work within a team environment.
• A full UK Drivers Licence.
• Proficient with IT and basic software such as Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing and triaging faults, resolving issues quickly where possible and escalating specialist requirements.
• Applying technical expertise to restore equipment to safe working condition and maintain trial activity.
• Supporting Engineering Leads to maximise facility uptime and return services to operation efficiently.
• Overseeing contractor work, maintenance shutdowns and inspections to ensure compliance and minimise downtime.
• Leading calibration activities including in-house calibrations, PAT testing and coordination of external support.
• Supporting equipment upgrades and lifecycle management, including commissioning, SAP implementation, spares strategy and engineering ownership of bespoke assets.
