Job summary

University of Southampton’s Optoelectronics Research Centre is seeking an experienced Mechanical Plant Engineer to join the small Facilities team. You will assist with planned and reactive maintenance in Mountbatten building, a highly serviced complex housing cleanrooms and optical laboratories.

You will ensure environmental conditions via air handlers and water plants, coordinate contractors, and support compliance audits.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining complex mechanical building systems.
• Electrical qualification advantageous.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Strong computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanroom complex and optical labs environmental conditions (air handlers, water plants, and mechanical systems).
• Coordinate contractors and ensure compliance with systems and audit trails.
• Be part of the on-call rota with paid overtime after induction and demonstration of competence.
