Job summary

The University of Southampton’s Optoelectronics Research Centre is recruiting a Mechanical and Electrical Plant Engineer to join a small Facilities team supporting Mountbatten building, home to cleanrooms and optical laboratories.

The role focuses on maintaining complex mechanical building systems, coordinating contractors, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will be on the on-call rota with paid overtime after a full induction, and training will be provided to the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining complex mechanical building systems.
• Electrical qualification desirable.
• Good written and spoken English.
• On-call rota with paid overtime after induction.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the cleanroom complex and optical labs to ensure optimal environmental conditions (air handlers, water plants, and mechanical systems).
• Coordinate and manage contractors and audit trails for compliance and regulatory reporting.
• Support compliance with systems and ensure thorough documentation and audit trails.
