Job description

80787 - Mechanical & Electrical Design Engineer

This Mechanical & Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Design Lead and will work within the Capital Programme based in our London (West Ham - Bidder St) office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus car and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after a 6-month probationary period - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose

Production of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) designs from a scope provided by Project Managers, Customers, or the Design Lead, including project costings aligned with customer requirements for time, quality, and budget. These schemes could involve APP and Connections work, following UK Power Networks design standards. The M&E Design Engineer will collaborate with the Project Manager, other Design Engineers, and the Principal Designer (CDM), ensuring compliance with design, CDM, and standards for regulated network solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake feasibility studies, site surveys, and buildability assessments for M&E engineering installations.
  • Produce M&E engineering designs compliant with relevant standards and CDM regulations.
  • Peer-review designs produced by other engineers.
  • Oversee and contribute to technical, commercial, and contractual documentation for procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
  • Support and mentor trainee/graduate engineers.
  • Fulfill the role of Principal Designer under CDM if required.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Work collaboratively within a team of designers, estimators, and planners.
  • Coordinate with operational teams from enquiry to final commissioning.
  • Develop standard designs, address site-specific issues, and specify solutions.
  • Ensure safety and hazard mitigation in designs.
  • Provide construction and maintenance information in designs.
  • Collaborate with UKPN designers.
Qualifications
  • Degree in engineering/science or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards chartership.
  • Experience in M&E engineering and utility sector.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, CDM regulations, and industry developments.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bentley software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of power engineering equipment.
  • Understanding of project management and sustainable design principles.
