Edina in Manchester, UK is hiring a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of energy projects from concept to commissioning.

The role focuses on CHP, Tri-Generation and Battery Energy Storage System installations, delivering megawatt‑scale solutions with safety and quality at the core.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, manage design documentation, and drive efficient, cost‑effective designs for sustainable energy projects.

Qualifications

• Five years or more of technical management experience delivering energy projects.
• Experience in power generation, pipework and ventilation design.
• CDM and health & safety awareness and compliance.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD 3D and Microsoft Office.
• Full, valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of energy projects from concept through commissioning.
• Develop pipework, HVAC and ventilation layouts for CHP, TriGen and BESS systems.
• Produce technical documentation: specifications, P&IDs, calculations and design reports.
• Coordinate with project managers, suppliers and clients to deliver on time and within budget.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design of our energy projects.

You will be helping to create some of the most innovative and sophisticated energy solutions available, producing megawatt‑capable products that save on energy costs and deliver energy utilisation of up to 95%.

Producing detailed engineering documentation, you will support the successful delivery of Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Tri Generation, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installations from initial concept through to commissioning and operation.

Working closely with the Design Manager, you will generate specifications, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and functional and technical design documents, and oversee the design of mechanical systems.

You will also perform safety assessments, carry out pipe and pump sizing calculations, and co‑ordinate CAD design activities to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Additionally, you will:

• Liaise with project managers, suppliers, and clients
• Assist with project budgeting and cost‑effective design delivery
• Manage supplier performance and sign off in line with project quality plans
• Provide on‑site technical support, including layout surveys and troubleshooting

About You

To be considered as a Mechanical Design / Process Design Engineer, you will need:

• To hold a minimum qualification of HNC/D or degree qualified in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a focus on power generation
• To have a minimum of five years’ experience in successful technical management and development of Energy Projects
• To be a competent Mechanical Engineer with experience in power generation, pipework, and ventilation design, CDM and health & safety
• To have effective IT skills and be competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages and experience using AutoCAD 3D or equivalent
• To hold a full, current driving licence

Hours of work: Monday - Thursday 8.30am - 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am - 4.00pm.
