Job summary

Hewett Recruitment is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Manager in Cheltenham to lead an established design team and deliver practical automation solutions. You will combine technical leadership with resource planning and continuous improvement, staying involved in the design of specialist machinery from concept through to manufacture and commissioning.

This permanent, full-time role offers a competitive salary (£55,000-£60,000), KPI bonus, a contributory pension, and a supportive environment

Qualifications

• Experience leading or managing a Mechanical Design team.
• Strong mechanical design experience within automation or special-purpose machinery.
• Experience delivering projects from concept through manufacture, assembly and commissioning.
• Strong working knowledge of engineering drawings, BOMs and design reviews.
• Confident managing priorities, developing people and accountability.
• Strong communication with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
• Legally eligible to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
• Own transport due to rural location.

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design leader with a background in automation or special-purpose machinery?

A growing engineering business is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design Manager to lead an established design team and deliver practical, commercially effective machinery solutions.

You’ll combine technical design work with team leadership, resource planning and continuous improvement.

• Lead and develop the Mechanical Design team.
• Remain hands-on with the design of special-purpose machinery.
• Plan workloads and allocate resources across multiple projects.
• Ensure designs are delivered safely, on time and to the required quality.

• Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD, engineering drawings, BOMs and design reviews.
• Confident managing priorities, developing people and holding others accountable.
• Strong communication skills when working with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
• Legally eligible to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
• Own transport due to the rural location.
