Job summary

ALTEN is a global engineering and technology consultancy delivering innovative solutions across clean energy, automotive, aerospace and advanced tech. The Mechanical Design Engineer role in Loughborough focuses on robust mechanical design, detailed CAD models, and documentation from concept through manufacture.

You will work with development and manufacturing teams, using SolidWorks on fast-paced R&D projects to deliver high-quality products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• 2–4 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
• Experience supporting products through design and development activities.
• Experience within clean energy, automotive, aerospace, or advanced technology environments.
• Knowledge of prototyping and product testing processes.
• Understanding of product lifecycle management and engineering change control.
• Experience working within a fast-paced R&D or product development environment.
• Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation.
• Support product development activities from concept, prototyping, and testing through to production.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
• Participate in design reviews and implement engineering improvements where required.
• Support prototype build, assembly, and validation activities.
• Manage design changes and maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and deliver project objectives.
