Job summary

PsiQuantum is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of next‑generation photonic hardware systems. This R&D role focuses on mechanical and thermal design, prototyping and validation of high‑spec hardware for demanding optical quantum computing.

The position requires 1–2 years of post‑degree experience, strong CAD skills, and hands‑on ability to move between design, build and test in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Degree or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 1–2 years in a demanding engineering environment.
• Experience designing, building and validating precision hardware.
• Strong CAD skills and engineering drawing production.
• Experience with mechanical/thermal modelling or simulation.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design of precision hardware from concept to prototype.
• Develop enclosures, packaging and layouts for stability‑critical environments.
• Design robust mechanical solutions for precise assemblies and components.
• Support thermal management and environmental control strategies.
• Perform mechanical/thermal analysis to guide design and assess risks.
• Plan validation activities for mechanical stability and thermal performance.
• Collaborate with photonics, systems and external partners to translate requirements into hardware.
• Engage suppliers on components, fabrication methods and assembly approaches.
• Assist prototype builds with documentation, procurement and testing.
• Help develop manufacturable hardware moving from lab to production.
