Our client is a global leader in high-precision manufacturing for the semiconductor and geological science industries. Recent investments in new production systems support their future growth, creating a vacancy for an experienced mechanical design engineer with solid calculation experience.

Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer

Based on the outskirts of Glasgow, this is an exciting opportunity to join this market-leading precision materials technology company.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, responsibilities include:

• Devising and developing new complex designs for industrial machinery and modifying existing designs in partnership with electrical and electronic engineers
• Producing detailed design documentation using 3D CAD for manufacturing and assembly, ensuring legal compliance
• Building and testing prototypes
• Identifying and evaluating new materials, methods, and suppliers
• Improving product quality
• Carrying out calculations to assess design safety, load handling, and suitability before assembly
• Providing cross-functional technical support

Key Requirement: This role requires experience in evaluating designs through calculations to ensure safety, load capacity, and purpose fit, not just visual design skills.

Ideal Skills and Qualifications:

• Degree in Mechanical or Product Design Engineering or equivalent
• At least 8 years of experience in mechanical design with calculation expertise
• Experience in high-value, low-volume manufacturing environments
• Design experience with electro-pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems
• Extensive 3D CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team
