Job Description:

Our client is a global leader in high-precision manufacturing for the semiconductor and geological science industries. Recent investment has been made in new production systems to support their future growth, which has resulted in a vacancy for an experienced mechanical design engineer.

Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer

Based on the outskirts of Glasgow, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join this market-leading precision materials technology company.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this position will be responsible for:

1. Devising and developing new products and modifying existing designs in partnership with electrical and electronic engineers.
2. Producing accurate detailed design documentation using 3D CAD to allow for manufacturing and assembly, ensuring the product is legally compliant.
3. Building and testing prototypes.
4. Identifying and evaluating new materials, methods, and suppliers.
5. Improving product quality.
6. Carrying out calculations to assess design safety, load handling, and suitability for purpose.
7. Providing cross-functional technical support.

KEY REQUIREMENT: This role involves evaluating designs through calculations to ensure safety, load capacity, and purpose fit, not just visual design.

Ideal Skills and qualifications:

• Degree or similar qualification in Mechanical or Product Design Engineering.
• At least 3 years’ experience in mechanical design.
• Experience in high-value, low-volume manufacturing environments.
• Design experience of electro-pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems.
• Substantial 3D CAD experience, preferably with SolidWorks.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
