Mechanical Design Engineer

Location:

The Role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the hands-on design of solutions, overseeing the mechanical aspects of the product, and implementing de-risking and design proving techniques to ensure the design is fit for purpose, compliant with all technical and legislative requirements, and suitable for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

1. Produce 3D solid models (e.g., SolidWorks), detail drawings, general arrangement drawings, and bills of materials to support conceptual design and manufacturing processes.
2. Create design documentation such as performance calculations, FEA, test plans, and material/component justification reports.
3. Ensure the mechanical design meets customer specifications, including safety and legislative compliance.
4. Collaborate with electrical engineers to develop integrated solutions.
5. Work with manufacturing, assembly, and testing teams to incorporate lessons learned and improve designs.
6. Follow the design process to ensure all necessary approvals and mitigations are in place at each stage.
7. Generate change documentation, provide justifications, and understand configuration management and change processes.

Accountabilities

The Mechanical Design Engineer is accountable for delivering a technical solution that meets the design requirements specified in the technical documentation and ensures the product is suitable for manufacturing, assembly, and testing.

Skills and Qualifications

1. Experience with electrical or electronic design, including integrating electrical solutions into mechanical designs.
2. Experience leading projects or small teams in a management role.
