Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in the defence sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing design tasks and ensuring compliance with customer performance and reliability requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute mechanical design tasks, ensuring compliance with customer performance and reliability requirements
- Develop piece part detailed designs and assembly designs, including assembly models and Bills of Materials (BoM)
- Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, understanding and addressing the challenges that arise
- Participate in proving and qualification activities to ensure compliance with requirements
- Apply robust design techniques such as DFMEA, DFA, and DFM
- Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, to influence and negotiate with partners across the business
- Engage and develop relationships with suppliers across internal and external multi-disciplinary teams
- Adapt to cultural differences and work effectively in diverse environments
- Maintain a willing, helpful attitude, a calm professional manner, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues with a strong delivery focus
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree/HND/HNC in Mechanical Design and Development or a related field, plus significant experience in mechanical design and development
- Proven experience in piece part detailed design and assembly design
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Awareness of proving and qualification activities
- Robust design experience using DFMEA, DFA, and DFM
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience in supplier engagement and development
- Understanding of cultural differences and the ability to adapt accordingly
- An understanding of structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis is advantageous
