Job summary

Plymouth-based building services consultancy seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver high-quality mechanical designs from concept through to completion. You will collaborate with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams to provide practical, sustainable solutions.

Responsibilities include designing HVAC and public health systems, producing calculations and drawings, and ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and British Standards.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy environment.
• Proficient in industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and IES or similar.
• Good understanding of current Building Regulations and relevant British Standards.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Working towards or already Chartered (desirable but not essential).

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical building services systems including HVAC, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic water services, and public health systems.
• Produce calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
• Prepare designs using industry-standard software.
• Attend design meetings and liaise with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
• Ensure designs comply with current regulations and industry standards.
• Support projects through all RIBA stages from concept to completion.
• Contribute to innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.
