Job summary

Airedale by Modine is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Product Development team on a 9 month fixed term contract. You will design and develop new standard HVAC products while maintaining the existing portfolio, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing and quality engineers.

You will perform thermodynamic and fluid mechanics analyses, select components, design water and air systems, and contribute to heat exchanger optimisation.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline or relevant Science based subject.
• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of thermodynamics.
• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics.
• Able to work under own initiative and learn quickly.
• Able to work in a team and manage projects to completion.
• Excellent communication at all levels.
• Experience with 3D modelling and 2D drafting.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out engineering calculations and performance predictions.
• Creating performance prediction programs and acoustic calculations.
• Select and specify critical components to fulfil a design brief.
• Water and air system design including pump and fan selection.
• Heat exchanger optimisation and component selection.
• Create 3D models, layout drawings and schematics; structure Bills of Materials.
• Implement component upgrades on existing standard product ranges; work to deadlines and cost requirements.

The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work in the Product Development team on a 9 month fixed term contract. It involves working closely with a team of mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing and quality engineers to design and develop new standard HVAC products whilst maintaining the existing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out engineering calculations
• Creating performance prediction programs
• Acoustic performance calculations
• Selecting and specifying critical components to fulfil a design brief
• Water system design and pump selection
• Air system design and fan selection
• Refrigeration system design and component selection
• Heat exchanger optimisation including fin and tube coil design
• Interface with Electrical Design, Controls, Research and Laboratory teams
  • Creating 3D models, layout drawings and schematics
  • Structuring Bills of Material
  • Implementing component upgrades on existing standard product ranges
  • Working to deadlines & cost requirements

Skills & Experience

• Degree Qualified in an Engineering discipline or relevant Science based subject
• Good theoretical and practical understanding of thermodynamics
• Good theoretical and practical understanding of fluid mechan
• Be able to work under own initiative
• Be able to learn quickly and think laterally
