An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join an established engineering business supporting the continued growth of its process engineering and project delivery activities.
The role will focus on developing, coordinating and managing technical design information across projects within the food, beverage, brewery, bakery, dairy and utilities sectors.
Working closely with internal project teams, customers and specialist third-party design suppliers, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring designs are practical, accurate and delivered to the required standards, budgets and timescales.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and amend existing mechanical designs, applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) and hygienic design principles.
- Produce, review and manage technical design information, including BOMs, layouts and engineering change records.
- Use SOLIDWORKS to review, amend and coordinate 3D models and mechanical design information.
- Coordinate P&IDs, equipment layouts, pipework routes and 3D models.
- Carry out UK site surveys, measurements and 3D scanning to verify existing installations and design constraints.
- Work with project teams to develop practical engineering solutions within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Manage technical interfaces with customers, suppliers, manufacturers and installers.
- Review and challenge third-party designs to ensure they meet project requirements and technical standards.
- Present design proposals and support project handovers and customer meetings.
- Contribute to improving design standards, procedures, standard parts and engineering documentation.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a relevant engineering qualification, ideally with a 2:1 or above.
- Strong SOLIDWORKS experience, with the ability to review, interrogate and coordinate 3D models.
- Experience within process engineering, food & beverage, dairy, utilities, pharmaceutical, chemical or hygienic manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacture principles.
- An understanding of mechanical engineering principles, engineering mathematics and relevant standards/regulations.
- The ability to understand and coordinate P&IDs, general arrangements, equipment layouts and 3D models, identifying clashes, omissions and inconsistencies.
- A practical and confident approach to site-based work.
- Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage technical requirements with customers, suppliers and third-party designers.
