Job summary

Cosma International is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in the UK to develop robotic automation systems, create CAD models, and lead design validation from concept to prototyping and final integration.

Ideal candidates will have front-end design experience, CAD expertise (SolidWorks/CATIA), and a strong manufacturing mindset. Travel may be involved; strong English communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • Front end design experience.
  • 2D and 3D CAD software: SolidWorks or Catia.
  • Design simulation proficiency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate with customers.
  • Engineering background in mechanical design.
  • Technical knowledge in mechanical design.
  • Desirable: HNC Apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical Eng’g.

Responsibilities

  • Design equipment layouts, robot grippers, CNC fixtures, stillages.
  • Review and approve designs; lead layout & design simulations.
  • Project manage suppliers and interpret customer requirements.
  • Apply DFM to simplify product structure and reduce parts.
  • Produce CAD drawings in SolidWorks or CATIA.
  • Support FEA validation and maintain revision control.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement with 3D/2D CAD.

This position involves supporting the full design process, from conceptualisation to prototyping, testing, and final integration, while ensuring the systems meet performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness standards. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, up-to-date knowledge of CAD technologies, and a strategic mindset to anticipate industry trends and contribute to the continuous improvement of robotic & Automation systems. As a Design Engineer, you must also stay abreast of emerging innovations mechanical principles, autonomous systems to drive next-generation automation solutions.Role Responsibilities:The role involves but is not limited to:-Be responsible for the design phase of Projects, focusing on the equipment layouts, Robot Grippers, CNC Fixtures, stillages, heat treat racks and Considering operator ergonomicsTo review and buy off designs and be involved in Layout & Design simulation.Project management of suppliers.
