ROLE: Mechanical Design Engineer

TERM: Permanent

LOCATION: Southampton

SALARY: GBP 35,000 - GBP 45,000, dependent on experience

My client provides bespoke products and engineering solutions for manufacturing. They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Southampton on a permanent basis.

Candidate Attributes:

1. Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
2. At least 3 years' experience in a similar Design Engineering / CAD operation role
3. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
4. Proficient in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc.
5. Knowledge of materials like sheet metal and injection-moulded plastics
6. Strong theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge with an understanding of core principles and tight tolerances
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
8. Proficient in MS Office
9. Strong organizational and time management skills
10. Ability to work independently and within a small multidisciplinary team

Key Responsibilities:

1. Using CAD for concept design and creating technical drawings
2. Liaising with manufacturing providers
3. Participating in final assembly of products
4. Preparing documentation for design, project reports, and plans
5. Updating 3D models and drawings
6. Inputting parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
7. Checking drawings for sign-off
8. Collaborating within a small multidisciplinary team on various projects
