Job summary

Hunter Selection Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing team in Lichfield. You will design bespoke material handling equipment, creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models, and prepare BOMs and specifications.

Experience with Autodesk Inventor and fabrication of steelwork is highly valued. Strong problem-solving, communication, and multi-project management skills are essential, with a DOE salary of £40,000–£47,000.

Qualifications

  • Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical design engineering.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor for 2D/3D design.
  • Experience with fabricating steelwork and material handling equipment is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and material handling equipment using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models.
  • Generate engineering documentation, including BOMs and technical specifications.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, project and engineering teams to ensure designs meet customer and operational requirements.
  • Review and improve existing products and systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and best practices.
  • Support projects through the full design lifecycle, from concept through to production.

Hours: Monday to Friday, Full-Time

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team specialising in material handling solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys designing innovative mechanical systems and seeing projects progress from concept through to manufacture.

Working within a collaborative environment, you will be responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D designs for a range of bespoke material handling equipment and systems, supporting projects across multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and material handling equipment using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models.
  • Generate engineering documentation, including BOMs and technical specifications.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, project and engineering teams to ensure designs meet customer and operational requirements.

About You

  • Experience designing fabricated steelwork, conveyors, material handling equipment or similar industrial machinery would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
