Job summary

Approved Workforce Ltd in Leeds is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for permanent, full-time work. You’ll design and develop mechanical building services, with your designs built across projects in Yorkshire and the wider UK.

The role involves spending time between the office and site, so you can take designs from concept to installation and resolve issues on site. You’ll use Revit/AutoCAD/MagiCAD, ensure compliance with UK standards, and work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Experience designing mechanical building services for contractors or consultancies.
• A relevant qualification such as HNC/HND or degree in building services or mechanical engineering.
• Working knowledge of CAD or BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD, MagiCAD).
• Understanding of mechanical systems and how they’re installed.
• CSCS card held or willingness to obtain one; capable of coordinating with site teams.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical services for heating, hot and cold water, ventilation, air conditioning and piping.
• Carry out heat loss, load, pipe and duct sizing calculations.
• Produce and review design drawings, schematics and coordination models using Revit/AutoCAD.
• Translate consultant and client designs into detailed installation drawings.
• Visit sites to survey, check progress and resolve technical queries with the installation team.
• Support commissioning, testing and handover, including O&M documentation.
• Coordinate with electrical, structural and architectural teams to avoid clashes.
• Ensure designs comply with current regulations, British Standards and CIBSE guidance.
• Manage design changes and keep drawings up to date.

I'm recruiting on behalf of a well-established mechanical and electrical contractor in Leeds. They're growing, and they need a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. Your designs will be built across projects around Yorkshire and the wider UK.

This role isn't desk-bound. You'll divide your time between the office and site, so you'll see your designs installed and be able to sort out problems at the source.

The role

• Design and develop mechanical services including heating, hot and cold water, ventilation, air conditioning and pipework systems
• Carry out heat loss, load, pipe and duct sizing calculations
• Produce and review design drawings, schematics and coordination models, using Revit / AutoCAD

What you'll need

Essential

• Experience in mechanical building services design, with a contractor or consultancy
• A relevant qualification, such as HNC/HND, degree or equivalent in building services or mechanical engineering
• Working knowledge of CAD or BIM software [Revit / AutoCAD / MagiCAD]
• A good understanding of mechanical systems and how they're installed
• Comfortable on construction sites, with a CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one)
• Clear communication skills with site teams, clients and consultants
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits

Desirable

• IEng, CIBSE membership or progress towards it
• Experience on healthcare / education / commercial / industrial / data centre projects
• Knowledge of BIM Level 2 and design coordination processes
• Experience with design software such as IES, Hevacomp, pipe sizing tools
