Job summary

Senex Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a Hampshire-based role with remote working options and occasional site time in Farnborough. You will manage the full design lifecycle, liaising with fabrication partners, selecting materials and maintaining technical documentation.

The ideal candidate has strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks), experience in manufacturing design and a degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with ability to travel occasionally.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design in manufacturing or closely related engineering environment.
• Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally using SolidWorks or another leading CAD software.
• Experience producing detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing drawings.
• Understanding of machining, welding and heavy steel fabrication.
• Experience sourcing engineering materials and components, and managing external suppliers.
• A BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering, Design or related discipline, or equivalent, or an HNC/HND with relevant industry experience.
• Ability to travel occasionally when required.

Responsibilities

• Developing, modifying and optimising mechanical designs using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD package.
• Producing accurate production drawings, CAD models and associated engineering information.
• Converting existing and legacy engineering data.
• Designing components and assemblies with manufacturability, quality, safety and cost in mind.
• Working with machine shops, steel fabricators and other manufacturing partners.
• Reviewing supplier proposals and resolving technical or engineering queries.
• Helping select materials such as steel, components and associated equipment.
• Providing practical technical support to the sales team in response to customer enquiries.
• Compiling, reviewing and maintaining product technical files.
• Producing user manuals, operating instructions and other technical documentation.

About the Role

Senex Recruitment is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a specialist engineering company based in Hampshire offering remote working. The role combines home-based work with occasional time on site in Farnborough, Hampshire, and with clients and suppliers. This is a varied position for a practical engineer who can manage the full design lifecycle, working with fabrication partners and machine shops, supporting supplier selection and purchasing, and maintaining technical documentation. You will report directly to an experienced Technical Director.

Key Responsibilities
