Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Special Purpose Machinery

Location: Corby

Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 (depending on experience)

You’ll play a key role in the full project lifecycle – from initial concept and layout through to detailed design, manufacturing support, and on-site commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed system layouts using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, integrating in-house and third-party equipment into bespoke plant designs.
• Produce 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs for fabricated components, conveyors, and supporting structures.
• Liaise with customers and suppliers to ensure engineering output meets expectations and project specifications.
• Support project delivery through site visits, measurement checks, and involvement during installation, commissioning, and testing.
• Work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams to improve design quality, reduce cost, and drive innovation.
• Maintain and improve technical documentation, manuals, and compliance standards.

Core Skillset

• Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) with a background in special purpose machinery.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, structural, and fabrication design.
• Experience working with ERP/MRP systems, managing project costs, and producing BOMs.

Qualifications & Experience

• HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
• Creative, dependable, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
