Job summary

Evolito Limited is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and implementation of its electric motor range on key customer projects. You will deliver detailed 3D CAD models, drawings and tolerances while ensuring manufacturability and performance.

Working with CAE, Systems and manufacturing teams, you will analyze stress, thermal effects and fluid flows to optimise designs and contribute to DFMEAs and risk mitigation in a fast-moving aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with design & development experience.
• Proficient in CAD and producing fully dimensioned drawings to BS8888.
• Experience with FEA and interpreting results to improve designs.
• Familiar with drawing control systems such as PDM.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D CAD models and drawings with tolerances.
• Ensure design meets functionality and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with CAE to analyse stress, thermal, and fluids.
• Support powertrain configurations with Systems Team.
• Assist manufacturing processes and novel designs; mitigate risks via DFMEAs.

Overview

Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications to support a net-zero world. Evolito develops and manufactures lightweight, high-power, high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for aerospace markets including EVTOL, unmanned aerial vehicles and general aviation. We design and deliver high-integrity, bespoke battery systems for aerospace and defence markets. The team is growing rapidly, and we are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and implementation of Evolito’s electric motor range on key customer projects.

Key responsibilities

• Detailed design of 3D CAD models and drawings using best practice geometric tolerances, key characteristics and drawing standards
• Provide detailed input to ensure overall design meets requirements for functionality and manufacture
• Collaborate with the CAE team to analyse and optimise designs for stress, thermal effects, and fluid flows
• Work with the Systems Team to generate powertrain configurations across a variety of aircraft
• Support the development of manufacturing processes and novel designs for new technology applications and materials
• Support DFMEAs and complete actions required to mitigate risks
• Liaise with key suppliers and customers on design and development issues, resolving to optimal solutions while understanding compromises

Skills and experience

• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with proven experience in a design and development environment
• Experienced user of CAD software with the ability to create design concepts and fully dimensioned drawings, working to BS8888 with best practice geometric tolerances and key characteristics
• Ability to undertake and interpret mechanical FEA studies and propose solutions or improvements to design issues
• Experience with drawing control systems such as PDM
• A strong mechanical or electrical engineering background, with ability to apply knowledge to real-world situations
• Creative problem solver with an analytical approach to implementation
• Familiar with FMEAs and robust engineering practices
• Good understanding of materials and their mechanical properties and processing
• Confident with customers and suppliers, able to detail requirements and understand issues
• Flexible and proactive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites
