Job description

Evolito’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.

As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to design and develop power electronics for electric propulsion systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with stringent aerospace standards.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Design and development of high-voltage (>400V to 1kV) three-phase inverter systems for electric propulsion
  • Undertake analysis of three phase inverters including dynamic switching characteristics, efficiency and thermal
  • Design differential and common mode filters for high voltage applications
  • Design failure detection and protection systems for high voltage wide bandgap devices
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of electronics design, encompassing analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, component selection, and design verification
  • Conduct formal design reviews, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and laboratory validation of power electronic system
  • Lead root-cause investigations of failures and define corrective actions, coordinating cross-functional teams and applying structured problem‑solving methodologies
  • Deliver technical reports and design documentation to support certification activities and regulatory approvals
  • Ensure adherence to Evolito’s internal standards as well as applicable aviation industry regulations
  • Contribute to the advancement of departmental technologies, capabilities, facilities, and processes
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers within the team.
Skills and experience required:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable industrial experience
  • Previous proven experience in electronics design, preferably within aerospace, defence or automotive industries
  • Strong understanding and experience with one or more of the following: wide bandgap switching devices (SiC MOSFETs), gate drive design and protection circuits, EMC analysis including magnetic design for filters, DC link filter design including capacitor selection, DC current ripple analysis including mitigation strategies
  • Experience with application of SiC MOSFETs in a high voltage, high altitude environment is desirable
  • Experienced in modelling, simulation and analysis of power devices for inverter systems
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and LTSpice
  • Knowledge of FEMM simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell is desirable
  • Proficient in ECAD software for schematic capture and PCB layout. Strong expertise in Altium Designer is essential
  • Skilled in conducting design analysis, including worst-case error, tolerance, thermal, and component stress analysis
  • Familiarity with Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles
  • Hands‑on experience with power electronics design verification and fault diagnosis
  • Experience with ‘Double Pulse Tests’, MOSFET thermal path characterisation and motor integration tests is highly desirable
  • Experience in parameter validation of wideband gap devices and associated test platforms
  • Use of lab equipment such as oscilloscope, function generator, impedance analyser etc
  • Experienced in generating relevant technical documentation for project milestones and regulatory approval
  • Knowledge of developing products that comply with aerospace design and test standards (such as ARP4754A/DO254/DO160) is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Instinctive problem‑solving skills coupled with a sound analytical approach
  • A 'self-starter' attitude with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Results‑orientated, with a focus on delivering outcomes aligned to business objectives
  • An interest in continuous professional development and combining experience with new or novel techniques.
