Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK, trading as Hanson UK, seeks a Mechanical Craftsperson at Ketton Cement Works to ensure reliability of plant equipment through planned preventive maintenance and proactive improvements. You will join a disciplined team delivering safety, environmental compliance and high performance across heavy industrial assets.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within heavy industrial/ manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical inspections and planned maintenance activities.
• Diagnose faults and carry out corrective repairs.
• Support plant reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in daily maintenance planning and MIP meetings.
• Work safely and comply with SHEQ requirements.
• Collaborate with colleagues and contractors to deliver maintenance solutions.

Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, this role is critical in ensuring the reliability, performance, and availability of plant equipment through proactive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives. As a Mechanical Craftsperson you will play a key role in supporting Heidelberg Materials’ Maintenance Improvement Plan (MIP) by carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance across the site. Working both independently and as part of a team, you will help maximise plant reliability while ensuring the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational performance. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanical engineer to work on a wide range of heavy industrial equipment, playing a key role in improving plant reliability, safety, and operational performance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing mechanical inspections and planned maintenance activities

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with strong mechanical maintenance experience gained within a heavy manufacturing, industrial, chemical, cement, quarrying, or similar environment.

You will ideally have experience with:

• Pumps, valves, pipework and process systems
• Conveyors, bearings, gearboxes and rotating equipment
• Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Compressed air generation and distribution systems
• Welding, burning and basic fabrication
• Mechanical fault finding and diagnostics
• Lifting and pulling equipment
• Workshop machinery including lathes, milling machines and drill presses
• SAP and maintenance management systems

Qualifications & Experience

• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Maintenance Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
• Completion of a recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within a heavy industrial, manufacturing, process, or engineering environment.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Desirable

• Experience of using SAP or other Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Additional qualifications in welding, fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics, or lifting operations.
• Multi-skilled maintenance experience within a continuous manufacturing environment.
