Job summary

Johnson Matthey Royston is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Technician to join the 3CR project. You’ll commission and maintain high-integrity equipment across a COMAH site, contributing to a proactive EHS culture and peak plant performance.

Reporting to the Maintenance Lead, you’ll work a 12.5-hour day shift with weekends on rotation, and you may assist with stocktaking periods. Join JM to help accelerate sustainable production and net-zero goals.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed a recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (e.g., BTEC ONC/HNC, C&G Parts 1 & 2, NVQ Level 3).
  • Completed City & Guilds Electrical Installation Parts One and Two (BS7671).
  • Experience in a large-scale manufacturing/chemical maintenance role desirable.
  • Profibus networking experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled execution of Planned, Reactive & Corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose faults and prioritise work to support daily operations for customers and stakeholders.
  • Undertake occasional plant modifications to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, adjustments and monitoring to sustain equipment reliability.

Working within the Operational readiness team and reporting to the Maintenance Lead, you’ll play a pivotal hands‑on role in the commissioning of primary and auxiliary production equipment and utility support systems. Your work will directly sustain operations and ensure the long‑term reliability of 3CR’s cutting‑edge assets.

The role:


  • Provide a skilled execution of Planned, Reactive & Corrective Mechanical and Electrical maintenance activities to ensure the ongoing reliability of equipment across the plant.

  • Deliver effective problem solving and Mechanical/Electrical fault diagnosis skills, adhering to identified work priorities to ensure that customers and stakeholders are supported in their daily operational needs.

  • Undertake occasional plant modification work to help enhance plant safety and improve efficiency.

  • Conduct Inspections, testing, adjustments, and monitoring tasks as required to maintain efficient plant and build‑in equipment reliability.


Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:


  • Must have completed a recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification. BTEC ONC/HNC, C&G Qualifications Parts 1 & 2, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. - Essential

  • Completed a City & Guilds Electrical Installation Parts One and Two or equivalent. City & Guilds IEE Wiring Regulations 18th edition (BS7671) - Essential

  • Experience in a large‑scale manufacturing / chemical industry within a maintenance function - Desirable

  • Experience of working with Profibus networking would be an advantage - Desirable


Base Salary £44,261 plus £792.50 meal allowance and 35% shift allowance.


You will be required to work a 12.5 hour day shift pattern which includes weekends on a rotation of 5 days on followed by 4 days off in rotation. You may be asked to work outside of normal working hours during particularly busy periods such as the annual Stocktake period in April/May, which also requires adherence to a holiday restriction whilst the Stocktake is being undertaken.
