Job summary

London-based Data Centre project seeks a Mechanical Commissioning Manager to lead multi-site commissioning strategy within a major operator's technical operations team. Hybrid work from Liverpool Street with international travel.

You will oversee commissioning governance, FAT/SAT/IST testing, O&M documentation and handover, and manage CxA, contractors and vendors across data centre projects from design through live operations.

Qualifications

• Significant data centre commissioning experience.
• Strong mechanical building services / MEP background.
• Experience across colocation and hyperscale data centres.
• Proven commissioning from pre-construction to handover with L1-L5 and L6.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning strategy, standards and governance across multiple data centre projects.
• Manage integrated commissioning programmes from design review through handover.
• Provide technical oversight of mechanical building services and critical infrastructure.
• Lead commissioning input during pre-construction, tender and design stages.
• Review designs for commissionability, maintainability and operational readiness.

MECHANICAL COMMISSIONING MANAGER

Location: London - Liverpool Street / Hybrid

Salary: Up to £110,000 basic

We are currently recruiting for a Commissioning Manager - Mechanical Bias to join a major Data Centre Developer / Operator within its Global Technical Operations team.

This is a central, multi-site commissioning position supporting data centre projects from design and pre-construction through construction, commissioning, handover and live operations.

The role will have responsibility for commissioning strategy, technical governance, programme delivery, design assurance, contractor/vendor management, testing, acceptance and operational readiness across a growing data centre portfolio.

THE ROLE

• Lead commissioning strategy, standards and governance across multiple data centre projects.
• Manage integrated commissioning programmes from design review through to handover.
• Provide technical oversight across mechanical building services and critical infrastructure.
• Lead commissioning input during pre-construction, tender and design stages.
• Review designs from a commissionability, maintainability and operational-readiness perspective.
• Manage and coordinate CxA, commissioning contractors, vendors and specialist commissioning teams.
• Lead and witness FAT, SAT and IST activities.
• Oversee L1-L5 commissioning and L6 checklists.
• Manage commissioning documentation, test scripts, test records and commissioning dossiers.
• Drive defect, snag and punch-list close-out through to client acceptance.
• Work closely with Construction, Design, Project Management, Commercial and Operations teams.
• Support live data centre commissioning and asset lifecycle works.
• Ensure operational readiness, O&M documentation and training requirements are completed.
• Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned and standardisation of commissioning processes.
• Provide technical input into resilience, availability and fault-tolerance initiatives.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

We are looking for someone with:

• Significant Data Centre Commissioning experience.
• Strong Mechanical Building Services / MEP background.
• Experience across Colocation and Hyperscale Data Centres.
• Strong knowledge of commissioning processes from pre-construction through handover.
• Proven L1-L5 Commissioning / L6 experience.
• Strong FAT, SAT and IST experience.
• Experience managing CxA, contractors and vendors.
• Experience reviewing data centre designs from a commissionability perspective.
• Strong understanding of ASHRAE and relevant international design standards.
• Experience with BMS / Controls and critical mechanical systems.
• Experience with commissioning programmes, ITPs, test documentation and handover.
• Experience working within a matrix organisation.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Willingness to undertake international travel.
