Mechanical Engineer

Work Arrangement: Hybrid working, 3 days onsite in Guildford, 2 days remote

Team and Role Overview

The Mechanical and Thermal Engineering Team in Guildford seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the Wireless team. The role demands strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and a flair for innovation and design.

BAES DI Wireless Hardware Capability designs, builds, and installs custom hardware to meet challenging client requirements, often beyond commercially available solutions.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Experience with SolidWorks Mechanical Design tools or similar
• Designing products using sheet metal and conventional machining
• Prototyping experience

Desirable Skills

• Experience in designing electronic enclosures

Key Responsibilities

• Report to the Capability Manager
• Interpret and clarify instructions, provide feedback, and contribute to design development
• Create detailed 3D models and mechanical drawings supporting manufacturing and assembly
• Analyze designs for structural integrity and thermal performance
• Produce design descriptions and performance reports
• Advise on manufacturing, materials, and techniques
• Develop prototypes and production-ready data packs
• Peer review colleagues' designs

Additional Responsibilities

• Promote best practices using BAE SYSTEMS tools
• Innovate in mechanical design and thermal management
• Introduce new materials and processes to reduce costs
• Liaise with customers to develop bespoke solutions
• Report findings clearly and effectively
