Job summary

Booth Welsh Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Building Services Engineer for a Bristol-based role within the nuclear sector. The role entails supporting building specification, design, and commissioning activities, coordinating with consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Ideal candidates will have experience with building services design, construction and commissioning, familiarity with RIBA plan of work and CIBSE, and the ability to manage design interfaces and change control.

Qualifications

• A suitably experienced Mechanical Building Services engineer.
• Experience with building design and coordination of building projects.
• Technical knowledge and experience of building design, construction and commissioning.
• Experience of working to, or knowledge of, RIBA plan of work and CIBSE.
• Accuracy, determination, diplomacy, results focussed.
• An ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
• Experience in nuclear industry advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the specification for new buildings: Supporting the preparation technical specifications for the consultants and contractors developing the design of the building.
• Supporting the design of Building Services: Surveillance of subcontracted design activities with the support of external consultants when required.
• Supporting construction, installation and commissioning of building services: Supporting the assessment of changes proposed during construction and engaging with the company Commissioning Teams.
• General requirements: Applying QA processes, raising alerts to the building leads/building services lead, providing expert support to the project as a smart customer.
• Commissioning requirements: Acting as the Point of Contact for commissioning topics and coordinating the team’s responses to the commissioning sequence of work.

Job description

We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join an established organisation within the nuclear industry, based in Bristol.

What you’ll be doing

Supporting the specification for new buildings:

• Supporting the preparation technical specifications for the consultants and contractors developing the design of the building.
• Contributing to the bidders’ technical assessment.
• Liaising with stakeholders involved in the specification, procurement, design, construction, use, maintenance and decommissioning of the building services.

Supporting the design of Building Services:

• Surveillance of subcontracted design activities with the support of external consultants when required.
• Supporting design reviews as part of the staged delivery.
• Analysing and resolve any technical design issues presented by consultants and contractors, challenge their proposals.
• Supporting the management of technical interfaces with the team.
• Supporting the management of design changes and non-conformances occurring during the design.

Supporting construction, installation and commissioning of building services:

• Supporting the assessment of changes proposed during construction
• Engage with the company Commissioning Teams and understanding company requirements to ensure commissioning proposals from the Contractor are suitable

General requirements:

• Applying QA processes, procedures and tools to manage the design activities (NNB arrangements, interface specifications with the Responsible Designer)
• Raising alerts to the building leads/building services lead where necessary.
• Providing expert support to the project as a smart customer through effective engagement with Procurement, Design Authority, Engineering, MEH and Commissioning.

Commissiong Requirements:

• Being the Point of Contact for the team for company Commissioning-related topics. Specifically, coordinating the Team’s responses to the company Commissioning sequence of work
