Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Mechanical Assembler/Tester for a client in Havant on a contract basis. The role focuses on precision mechanical assembly and testing of engineered components and systems, ensuring compliance with technical specs, quality standards and safety regulations.

Key duties include assembling components per drawings, performing functional and pressure tests, documenting build and test results, and collaborating with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical assembly and testing within defence, marine or heavy engineering preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, method sheets and specs.
• Familiarity with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering; an apprenticeship is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components and systems per engineering drawings and works instructions.
• Carry out functional and pressure testing with appropriate tools.
• Identify and report non-conformances or defects during assembly and testing.
• Maintain build, test and traceability documentation.
• Support engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
• Follow health and safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Contribute to continuous improvement within the assembly cell and wider production area.
• Keep workshop area clean, organized and safe.

Our client, a leading organisation within the defence and security sector, is seeking a Mechanical Assembler/Tester to join its assembly team in Havant on a contract basis. The role involves precision mechanical assembly and testing of engineered components and systems, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components and systems in line with engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications
• Carry out functional and pressure testing using appropriate tools and equipment
• Identify, record and report non-conformances or defects during assembly and testing
• Maintain accurate build, test and traceability documentation
• Work with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues
• Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment
• Support continuous improvement activities within the assembly cell and wider production environment
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop area

Job Requirements

• Experience in mechanical assembly and testing, ideally within a defence, marine or heavy engineering environment
• Background as a Mechanical Fitter or mechanical assembler.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, method sheets and engineering specifications
• Familiarity with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, callipers and gauges
• Understanding of hydraulic or pneumatic systems is desirable
• Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to quality
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, mechanical fitting or a related discipline; a relevant apprenticeship is advantageous

Additional Information

• Workshop-based position involving occasional lifting and manual handling
• Working hours are 06:00 to 15:00 on Monday, 07:00 to 15:00 from Tuesday to Thursday, and 07:00 to 13:00 on Friday
• Occasional overtime or shift work may be required in line with project demands
