Job summary

CHG Electrical in Sheffield is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver mechanical solutions for water and wastewater MEICA projects. Hybrid working is available, with 1–2 days at home.

The role includes design of pumps, pipework and process plant, plus on-site handover support. You will develop detailed layouts, equipment specifications and calculations, ensuring buildability and integration with civil and electrical disciplines.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5+ years of mechanical design experience in utilities, infrastructure or water projects.
• Experience designing pumps, pipework, valves, tanks and process plant.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and Inventor; familiar with pipework/process design tools.
• Familiar with WIMES, Sewerage Sector Guidance and design standards.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical designs, drawings and calculations covering pumps, pipework, valves, tanks and process plant.
• Develop P&IDs, GA layouts and equipment schedules for project mobilisation.
• Interpret process flow information and equipment specifications to develop engineering solutions.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical and wider project teams to ensure integration.
• Review subcontractor and supplier mechanical design proposals.
• Provide technical support to site teams during construction and respond to RFIs.
