Measurement Engineer

Full-time Permanent Role

Shift for this role:

  • (MON-THU) 6 AM - 2 PM OR (MON-THU) 2 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Friday 6 AM - 12 PM or 12 PM - 6 PM

The Measurement Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Rolls-Royce has fit-for-purpose measurement capability for our products to meet business, customer, and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for the application and fitting of instrumentation to test vehicles and rigs. This role offers a hands-on, non-repetitive experience.

The instrumentation applied to engine components is critical to support engine/rig test knowledge. This includes thermocouples, pressure tapping, metal temps, and strain gauges. The instrumentation measures real-time engine stresses, vibrations, temperatures, and pressures on test vehicles.

The role is primarily based within the Measurement Engineering Laboratory, with tasks that may require working from Module Build and Test Beds within ET&S Civil Aerospace Engineering Operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Marking out and fitting instrumentation on components, modules, and engines, including securing cables or tubes.
  • Interpreting technical instructions and working from drawings, sketches, and manuals.
  • Manufacturing and installing strain gauges, thermocouples, etc.
  • Supporting Engineering Operations with instrument installation and repair.
  • Developing new application techniques and raising non-conformance issues.
  • Implementing risk management and adhering to HSE policies.
  • Working to deadlines and supporting project and program delivery.
  • Supporting graduate programs and collaborating on projects at other sites.
  • Working with measurement specialists and development engineers to improve instrumentation methods.
  • Supporting electronics and telemetry teams with practical knowledge.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent, unless a technician role.
  • Experience with electrical equipment and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Experience in instrumentation application or manufacturing is preferred but not essential.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to develop new skills and undergo training.
  • Knowledge of lean principles and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
