Job description

We are pleased to announce a full-time Social Worker position at GMMH Andersen Ward Mother and Baby Unit (MBU), located at Laureate House, Wythenshawe Hospital. The MBU is a 10-bed inpatient unit dedicated to women experiencing acute perinatal mental health issues.

Main duties of the job
  1. Work with the multidisciplinary team providing social work practice and support across the MBU.
  2. Ensure the needs of mothers and their babies are met through social work services.
  3. Provide social care advice, lead safeguarding efforts, and support recovery, social inclusion, and social justice initiatives.
  4. Be flexible and innovative as the service develops.
  5. Report to and receive supervision from the Perinatal Lead Social Worker.
  6. Mentor and support newly qualified social workers and health colleagues.

Person specification
Education and Experience
  • Qualification in Social Work (e.g., DipSW, BA/BSc/MSc in Social Work).
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act, Children Act, Mental Capacity Act, and others.
  • Experience in mental health or children’s and families settings.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and child protection proceedings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of how mental health impacts parent/child relationships.
  • Commitment to partnership working and ability to chair meetings confidently.
  • Organizational skills to handle complex information effectively.
