Job summary

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Theatre Practitioner to join the Maxillofacial Surgery team as a Surgical First Assistant, primarily based at University Hospital Aintree with links across the wider Maxillofacial service.

In this role you will work with consultants and senior surgeons to support peri-operative care, assist in complex maxillofacial procedures, and contribute to safe theatre practice within a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Post-registration Surgical First Assistant course required or desirable.
• Experience as a theatre practitioner within maxillofacial settings is essential.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up maxillofacial surgical equipment and implants for OMFS procedures.
• Assist surgeons, maintain haemostasis, and perform tissue retraction during procedures.
• Ensure aseptic technique and maintain patient safety throughout the peri-operative pathway.
• Support patient positioning, airway protection, and sterile draping for procedures.
• Maintain equipment and assist with peri-operative catheterisation when required.
