Job summary

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Maternity Support Workers to join midwifery teams across inpatient wards, delivery suite, triage or antenatal clinic. The MSW assists under the supervision of a midwife to provide safe, holistic care and support to mothers and babies.

Applicants must meet essential qualifications including Level 3 Health Care, GCSEs or equivalent, and a Care Certificate.

Job description

We are looking for Maternity Support Workers to join our midwifery teams working within our inpatient wards, delivery suite, Triage or antenatal clinic. The primary role of a Maternity Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and wider multidisciplinary team: in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to care.

The midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her new-born(s), and it is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MSW assists with and provides clinical care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training.

The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies, support will be given to employees to further develop their skills and explore pathways for progression where appropriate.
