Job summary

HCA UK Portland Hospital in London is seeking a Practice Development Midwife to lead the education and professional development within the Maternity Services Department. You will facilitate practice learning, teach, assess, and support quality governance across obstetric care.

Qualifications

• NMC Registered midwife
• Evidence of post registration education
• Up-to-date Obstetric Emergency Training
• Mentorship qualification with Sign-Off Mentor status
• Competent in cannulation, venepuncture and perineal suturing.

Responsibilities

• Participate in development, coordination, and managing, facilitating, conducting, and evaluating competency in the clinical setting.
• In collaboration with leadership, produce a training needs analysis for the Maternity Services.
• Coordinate and manage in-service education programmes for midwives, healthcare assistants and nursery nurses including mandatory training on medical devices and the maternity training days (Skills and Drills, Fetal Monitoring).
• Facilitate midwives to develop their clinical skills and competencies including IV Cannulation, Suturing, IV drug administration, water birth and obstetric skills and drills.
• Organise and lead in situ skills and drills and other simulation training in the clinical setting.
• Ensure the maternity training programmes are updated to include learning from local and national incidents, and that they are benchmarked against national recommended training requirements.
