As a Maternity Registered Nurse we will upskill you to work within, but not limited to, maternity theatres, recovery, the delivery suite, Obstetric Observation/High Dependency Care and the Postnatal Ward.

On completion of your maternity competencies, you will provide care of preoperative, immediate post partum and postnatal women and birthing people.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual care needs for assigned mothers and babies

Undertake safe practice within your remit maintaining high standards of care.

Upskill and complete you core maternity competencies including but not limited to: postnatal examinations of mother and baby, preparation for obstetric theatres, medication administration and management, infant feeding support, postnatal education and referral for appropriate obstetric/neonatal or other review where indicated.

Confidently use all the IT packages available in maternity

To support the MDT in the delivery of obstetric and neonatal emergency care following the appropriate training.

Utilise opportunities togain a broad range of maternity specific clinical experience and practical skills under the direction of ward manager and Clinical Practice Educator

To provide care that is sensitive and compassionate in the event of pregnancy and neonatal loss

Job responsibilities

In collaboration with the ward integrated multidisciplinary team, to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients.

Achieve objectives set for maternity nursing competency.

To be utilised to work mainly within but not limited to, the areas of Obstetric Observation/High Dependency Care and Postnatal Ward.

To be the lead practitioner in the care of postnatal women and birthing people within the specified remits including recovery from caesarean section and other obstetric procedures and medicines management and administration.

To support the Midwifery team in the direct clinical care of new born babies, referring for additional medical review where indicated.

To contribute towards developing and maintaining a suitable and stimulating learning environment, including supervising junior registered and unregistered staff.
