Job summary

The Clinical Healthcare Support Worker (CHCSW) is a Band 3 role aligned with the Maternity Labour Ward at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston. You will support midwives and obstetricians, helping to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to women, babies and families on the ward.

You will assist with clinical and non-clinical duties, maintain infection control, replenish stock, and work under supervision of registered staff to ensure safe patient care and a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

• Literacy and numeracy qualifications equivalent to Functional Skills level 1 or above.
• NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
• Evidence of the Care Certificate or commitment to achieve on joining Trust.
• Understanding of the Code of Conduct for Health Care Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England

Responsibilities

• Support midwives and the multidisciplinary team in providing safe, high-quality care to women, babies, and their families throughout labour, birth, and the postnatal period.
• Assist with basic patient care, including hygiene needs, mobility, comfort measures, feeding, and observation of maternal and neonatal wellbeing.
• Undertake and record clinical observations, escalating any concerns promptly to the registered midwife.
• Monitor and replenish stocks of cleaning materials, PPE, and clinical supplies.
• Dispose of clinical and domestic waste safely and according to Trust procedures.
• Report any maintenance, environmental, or cleanliness concerns to the appropriate department.
• Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
• Attend mandatory training and participate in personal development activities.
