Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Huddersfield is seeking a Materials Science & Engineering Placement Student to join our Engineering team within the Turbocharger business.

This on-site placement offers hands-on exposure to real-world product development and cross-functional collaboration. You will work three days a week on-site, support new materials selection, conduct tests, analyze data in Excel, and contribute to long-term projects starting Summer 2027.

Qualifications

• Studying Materials Science and Engineering or related degree.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving with initiative.
• Ability to investigate and interpret data using Excel.
• Excellent communication and time management with a desire to learn.

Responsibilities

• Support new product development by evaluating materials and processes to meet customer needs and targets.
• Manage quality through component failure analysis and testing to inform action.
• Collaborate with global stakeholders, understand requirements, present conclusions and recommendations.
• Create and develop testing processes for materials and components.
• Contribute to long-term investigative product development projects.
