Job summary

Cummins Inc. in Huddersfield is seeking a Materials Science & Engineering Placement Student to join our Engineering team within the Turbocharger business.

This on-site placement offers hands-on exposure to real-world product development and cross-functional collaboration. You will work three days a week on-site, support new materials selection, conduct tests, analyze data in Excel, and contribute to long-term projects starting Summer 2027.

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Materials Science & Engineering Placement Student to join our team specialising in Engineering for our Turbocharger business segment in Huddersfield, United Kingdom.

During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

The requirements are to be onsite for 3 days per week so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence in Summer 2027.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Supporting new product development teams by identifying and evaluating the most appropriate materials and processes to meet customer needs, cost targets and sustainability goals
• Manage quality by conducting component failure analysis and testing to directly inform customer protection actions or supplier quality management actions.
• Collaborating with global internal and external cross-functional stakeholders, understanding initial requirements. Presenting conclusions and recommendations following completion of analysis and testing.
• Creating new and developing further existing testing processes for materials and components.
• Work on long-term investigative product development projects across the business.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
