Job summary

Amphenol Ltd in Whitstable seeks a skilled Material Process Engineer to drive electroplating and metal finishing controls. You will develop PFMEAs, documentation, and lead process improvements in a regulated manufacturing environment.

You will work with chemical analysts, operators and management to ensure quality, safety and environmental standards while supporting NPI projects and delivering continuous improvements across the department.

Qualifications

Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field.
Experience in manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong understanding of process control and problem solving.
Knowledge of PFMEA, process documentation and quality practices.
GMP and laboratory processes knowledge.
COSHH and chemical handling knowledge.
Analytical skills to identify improvement opportunities.
Excellent cross-functional communication.
MS Office proficiency.
Experience in electroplating or chemical process manufacturing.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment and environmental compliance.
Experience with NPI in regulated manufacturing.
Awareness of aerospace/defence high-reliability sectors.
Experience training or leading teams.

Responsibilities

Analyse and improve electroplating and metal finishing processes.
Develop PFMEAs, process diagrams, work instructions and documentation.
Provide technical support across plating operations.
Investigate process issues and implement corrective actions.
Monitor plating chemicals to ensure performance.
Support New Product Introduction projects with development and validation.
Maintain process control limits and analysis schedules.
Develop quality documentation and manufacturing instructions.
Drive 5S and efficiency initiatives.
Support wastewater treatment and environmental compliance.
Coordinate with maintenance to keep equipment operational.
Train and mentor team members.
Act as deputy for the Material Finish Engineer when required.

The Vacancy:

Amphenol Military & Aerospace is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Material Process Engineer to join our team in Whitstable.

This is an exciting opportunity for a science or chemistry professional to play a key role in the development, control and continuous improvement of electroplating and metal finishing processes that support products used in some of the world's most demanding aerospace and defence applications.

Working closely with chemical analysts, operators, team leaders and management, you will be responsible for maintaining process control, improving manufacturing performance, supporting new product introduction activities and ensuring compliance with quality, environmental and health & safety standards. You will also contribute to the development of new finishes and technologies while helping to drive operational excellence across the department.

Key Responsibilities

Analyse, maintain and continuously improve electroplating and metal finishing processes.
Develop and implement PFMEAs, process diagrams, work instructions and process documentation.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise across plating operations.
Investigate process issues, customer returns and non-conformances, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
Monitor, analyse and control plating chemicals, solutions and materials to ensure consistent process performance.
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects through process development and validation activities.
Maintain process control limits and oversee routine chemical analysis schedules.
Develop and maintain quality documentation, analytical procedures and manufacturing instructions.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S standards and departmental efficiency projects.
Support wastewater treatment operations, environmental compliance and hazardous waste management activities.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure plating plant and equipment remain fully operational.
Provide training, coaching and mentoring to team members to support skills development and performance improvement.
Act as deputy for the Material Finish Engineer when required.

What We Are Looking For Essential Skills & Experience

Degree qualified in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related scientific discipline.
Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong understanding of process control, continuous improvement methodologies and technical problem solving.
Knowledge of PFMEA development, process documentation and quality management practices.
Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and laboratory processes.
Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH and chemical handling procedures.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify process improvement opportunities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Experience within electroplating, surface finishing or chemical process manufacturing.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment systems and environmental compliance requirements.
Experience supporting NPI projects within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Understanding of aerospace, defence or other high-reliability manufacturing sectors.
Previous experience training, mentoring or leading teams.
