Job description

As the Materials Glass Engineer, you will support the development of new glasses as well as glass strengthening and bending process improvement. You will perform both physical and chemical tests on products and development materials. This is an onsite role at our Huntsville, AL, facility. You will report to the Materials Technology Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Troubleshoot problems related to glass strengthening and bending production.
  2. Operate various laboratory equipment, including analytical instruments such as TGA, DSC, XRF, FTIR, ICP-MS.

Record data on manual or computerized systems, interpret and communicate test results, and inform management of non-conforming materials or products. Ensure laboratory safety procedures are followed, participate in 5S activities, and comply with health, safety, and environmental requirements. Conduct glass melt/preparation, chemical characterization, and physical property testing (hardness, light transmittance, stress profile, viscosity).

Qualifications

  • Must be a US Person.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science or Ceramic Engineering; Master's preferred.
  • Coursework in glass and/or ceramics.
  • At least 1 year of academic or industrial laboratory experience.
  • Experience in product development is helpful.
  • Knowledge of characterization equipment such as UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer, FTIR, ICP-MS, XRF, and mechanical testing is advantageous.
