Job Description:

• Preparing, testing and analysing samples, using lab equipment including SEM and optical microscopes.
• Forensic level failure investigation where evidence is often partially destroyed.
• Writing quality reports and technical specifications to communicate clearly with all stakeholders.

Required Experience:

• Experience with power modules and electronic devices at component level.
• Conducting research and development projects.
• Component failure analysis including electronics fault finding to component level.
• Providing proven solutions to problems under pressure.
• Working with the supply chain on development and process control.

Knowledge:

• Welding, brazing, sintering, and soldering.
• Engineering materials and production techniques.
• Properties of metallic alloys, polymers, plastics, and composites.
• Materials characterisation techniques related to electronics.

Qualifications:

• Materials Degree with 2:1 classification or above and over 3 years of relevant experience.
• Strong communication skills, technical leadership, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.

Success Criteria:

• Leading forensic investigations into failed electronic components.
• Guiding materials selection and research for the Power Unit.
• Supporting manufacturing and quality departments with material and process issues.
