Berghaus, a brand within Pentland Brands, is seeking a Materials Designer to shape the fabrics that bring our outdoor apparel to life. You’ll research, develop and deliver materials that perform in changing conditions, balancing weight, durability and hand-feel.

Collaborating with Design, Product Management, Development, Sourcing and Sustainability, you’ll define seasonal material direction, build libraries, evaluate materials and ensure solutions are production-ready and responsibly sourced.

Qualifications

• Experience in materials, textile design or fabric development.
• Strong knowledge of technical and performance fabrics.
• Understanding of fibres, yarns, laminations, coatings and finishes.
• Experience from concept through production-ready materials.
• Sustainability and responsible sourcing awareness.
• Experience collaborating with mills, suppliers and cross-functional teams.
• Creative judgment balancing innovation, performance and cost.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsabilités

• Research and develop fabrics, constructions, finishes and material technologies.
• Define seasonal material direction reflecting brand strategy and market trends.
• Build and maintain material libraries and toolboxes for design teams.
• Evaluate materials for performance, durability, weight and hand-feel.
• Explore fibres, yarns, laminations, coatings to identify solutions.
• Collaborate with mills, suppliers and partners to source new materials.
• Work with Design, Development, Sourcing and Product teams to ensure viability.
• Champion lower-impact material solutions without sacrificing quality.
• Translate trends into material opportunities for Berghaus.
• Create clear material presentations and stories for concepts.
